What is MCT Oil Powder?
MCT oil powder is a natural supplement that is derived from medium chain triglycerides. These are fatty acids that are commonly derived from natural plant-based sources, and because of this, they function very differently to standard types of fatty acids, plus there is the added benefit that they also contain far fewer calories as well. In actual fact, the body tends to utilize these fatty acids more like a source of carbohydrate, rather than a fat source, which is one of the main reasons why they’re so beneficial, but we’ll look at more about that in a few moments. MCT oil powder, as the name implies, is a powdered supplement form of MCT oils, so basically, the healthy oils that make up the MCT oil, are carefully filtered and processed, making sure to retain all of the natural nutrients, until you are left with an easy to consume powdered supplement, that can be mixed into shakes, smoothies, beverages, or even whole food meals, to provide an instant source of these incredibly healthy oils.
How does it work?
MCT oil powder works in a number of ways, which is why it is so popular. MCTs you see, are utilized differently by the body. Whereas, unless you are following a low carb diet, carbohydrates are the body’s preferred source of energy, MCTs are molecularly different in structure, and because of that, the body utilizes them just like a carbohydrate, meaning that they are used as an instant source of energy. Some people are worried about consuming supplements rich in fats, healthy or otherwise, because they’re worried about weight gain, but with MCTs, as they are used up so quickly, they provide a great source of energy, with none being left over to be stored as fat. Not only that, MCTs can also help to increase muscle mass and regulate and stabilize blood glucose levels, making them an essential part of everyday health.
What are the benefits of using MCT Oil Powder supplements?
Some of the primary benefits of MCT oil powder supplements include:
Fat loss
As mentioned, MCT oil powders are utilized almost instantly by the body, meaning that once consumed, you get all of the benefits, with no nasty side effects such as an increase in fat levels, or a reduction in metabolic rate. In fact, MCTs can enhance fat loss because they can regulate blood glucose levels, helping to stabilize hormone levels in the process. On top of that, they have been found to boost the metabolism and generate more energy, which generally means the individual becomes more active, and therefore will burn off more calories. Finally, MCT oil powder is also much lower in calories than other healthy fat sources, which is why they have been found to assist with fat loss.
Increased energy levels
Another benefit of MCT oil powders is that they can provide increases in energy levels. Once consumed, the MCTs are used like carbohydrates, and become a quick source of energy for the body. This in turn can make you feel more alert, it can motivate you, it can energize you, and it can fuel your body. This is all down to their molecular structure, because they are shorter than other triglycerides, and are therefore easier to process, plus they have an enhanced solubility.
Muscle growth
Another great benefit of MCTs is that they have been found to help increase and preserve muscle growth. Again, the extra energy means that gym training sessions become more productive, but on top of that, they also help to preserve glycogen stores in the muscles, and amino acids, which assist with muscle recovery, contraction, and function.
How and when should it be consumed?
There is no optimal time to use this supplement, other than once per day. To use, simply mix 10g (1 scoop) of the powder into your favourite beverage, and enjoy.
MCT Oil VS Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is rich in MCTs which is one of the main reasons why it is so healthy, but even so, there are still some subtle differences between MCT oil and coconut oil. Coconut oil for example, is rich in slightly more lauric acid than MCT oil, but overall, MCT oil contains more MCTs, which you may have already guessed. Because of this, the two actually work very well in synergy with one another.
What can it be stacked with?
As mentioned, MCT oil powder can be stacked with coconut oil to increase healthy fat intakes, but as the supplement promotes a healthy lifestyle, it also works well with: omega 3s, multivitamins, vitamin c, and joint supplements.
