What is Glucosamine Sulfate?
Basically, in the human body, located in our cells in cartilage which is located between our joints, we have a naturally occurring substance known as glucosamine. The body produces this wonderful substance in order to help to protect the bones and its joints. Unfortunately, as we grow older, like most things in our body, natural glucosamine production slows down extremely rapidly, putting the bones, joints, and cartilage much more at risk. What’s more, the more damage they sustain, the more the need for glucosamine, so it’s really like a form of vicious circle. Found in tendons, synovial tissue, muscles, ligaments, and connective tissue, glucosamine sulphate is essential for healthy bones and joints, which is why these supplements are proving to be so beneficial and popular.
How does it work?
Glucosamine Sulphate plays a vital role in the strengthening of cartilage surrounding the joints, as well as in the synthesis and production of glycosaminoglycans. Commonly used to treat arthritis, osteoporosis, and other similar conditions, glucosamine sulphate supplements are extremely popular and are extremely beneficial in the process. Cartilage acts as a form of padding between your joints, and without it, they would rub together and would be extremely painful. Glucosamine sulphate basically helps to increase cartilage strength and production, which helps reduce pain and inflammation in the bones and joints. Not only that, if cartilage tissue does sustain any damage, glucosamine sulphate can help to repair it in the process.
What are the main benefits of Glucosamine Sulfate supplements?
Some of the primary benefits associated with glucosamine sulphate supplements include:
Reduced risk of arthritis and osteoporosis
A lot of people will wait until they suffer from arthritis and osteoporosis before they begin using glucosamine supplements, but experts have in fact revealed that prevention is the best cure which means that supplementing with glucosamine supplements, even if you feel perfectly fine, is a great way of helping to ensure that you don’t suffer from these conditions later on in life.
Reduced pain and inflammation
Glucosamine sulphate supplements act as powerful anti-inflammatory supplements and have been found to greatly help reduce pain and inflammation in and around the joints. Obviously this is pretty self explanatory as a benefit, because the less pain and discomfort you experience, the happier you will feel as a result.
How and when should it be consumed?

Health Canada Recommended Dose (powder):Â Scoop size: 1.5 g. Adults: 1 Scoop(s) 1 time(s) per day.
Glucosamine Sulfate VS Chondroitin
Often, in many joint supplements, you will find glucosamine sulphate with another supplement known as Chondroitin, which is also another compound that is found naturally within the human body. Although similar, chondroitin is still different to glucosamine sulphate, in that it helps to lubricate cartilage within the joints by allowing them to absorb more water. Combine this with the healing effects of glucosamine sulphate, and it’s easy to see why the two are combined with one another.
What can it be stacked with?
As you can probably imagine, a lot of people will consume glucosamine sulphate supplements with chondroitin supplements, especially if they’re looking after their joints, bones, and ligaments. On top of that however, it can also be stacked with omega 3 fatty acid supplements, which also help lubricate the joints and keep them protected and well looked after.
