What is Glycine Propionyl L-Carnitine (GPLC)?

GPLC, or Glycine Propionyl-L-Carnitine, is actually an ester of carnitine which includes an extra glycine component. It is a primary ingredient found in a variety of new health and fitness supplements, all of which are designed to enhance athletic performance whilst assisting with fat loss and muscle growth in the process. Experts have found that GPLC can help improve circulation and can therefore assist with athletic performance, whilst helping to eliminate free radicals and toxins that could be detrimental, not only to our athletic performances, but also to our general health and well-being.

How does it work?

Basically, studies have revealed that GPLC contains ingredients which can help stimulate the natural production of Nitric Oxide within the body. Nitric Oxide is a potent and powerful vasodilator that dilates the blood vessels and allows more blood to be carried through them. This is beneficial because oxygen, nutrients, and other compounds used as energy, are transported to cells around the body, via the blood stream. The more blood that is carried around the body, the more oxygen, energy, and nutrients will be delivered to the cells. This in turn will assist with muscle contractions, it will allow the muscles to work harder before they fatigue, and it will also help to eliminate lactic acid and other harmful by-products of exercise and athletic performance, that can lead to feelings of fatigue and lethargy. On top of that, there is evidence that suggests that GPLC can also reduce body fat levels in the process. Studies have found that GPLC could prevent fats from being transported into fat cells, which means that obviously they cannot be stored as body fat, and so must be used as a primary source of energy instead.

What are the main benefits of GPLC supplements?

Some of the primary benefits associated with GPLC supplementation include:

Improved athletic performance

As mentioned, due to the fact that GPLC has been found to greatly increase Nitric Oxide levels within the human body, more oxygen and nutrients can be transported to the awaiting muscle cells, and as a result, the muscles can function more efficiently before they begin to tire and fatigue.

Better vascularity

For bodybuilders and anybody trying to look lean and ripped, increasing your vascularity is a great way of doing just that. As the additional Nitric Oxide dilates your blood vessels and allows them to transport more blood around the body, the veins and vessels appear bigger and fuller, and will therefore be more prominent and will help provide a more vascular looking physique.

Fat loss

As GPLC can help prevent fats from being stored in fat cells, obviously this means that you can burn more calories from fat, and have more energy as a result. As it also increases athletic performance, you can get more done in the gym, and can therefore burn off more calories.

Other benefits include:

  • Increased fat loss
  • Enhanced metabolism
  • Increased energy levels
  • Improved athletic performance
  • Improved immune system function
  • Better circulation
  • Better nutrient transportation
  • Increased vascularity
  • Increased stamina
  • Can treat erectile dysfunction
  • And more...

How and when should it be consumed?

For optimal results, experts recommend consuming anything from 500mg – 1500mg twice per day, depending on what you are looking to get from the supplement. For poor circulation, 2 x 500mg servings per day is enough, whereas for blood vessel disorders, or for people looking to increase athletic performance, 1000mg – 1500mg twice per day (2000mg – 3000mg in total) is recommended.

GPLC VS Acetyl L-Carnitine

GPLC and Acetyl L-Carnitine are very similar to one another, although there are some very subtle differences that you should be aware of. Although different forms of the same amino acid, acetyl l-carnitine is a processed form of l-carnitine, meaning that it is absorbed quicker and can cross the blood-brain barrier more effectively. Because of this, it helps boost brain health and function.

What can it be stacked with?

GPLC functions as a very powerful performance enhancing supplement that can assist with a number of general health and fitness concerns in the process. Because of this, for athletic performance, it is often stacked with other amino acids, including BCAAs and L-Glutamine. Some users will also stack it with creatine monohydrate to help really increase athletic performance.
