What is CLA?
CLA, or Conjugated Linoleic Acid, is actually a form of free fatty acid that is primarily found in foods rich in healthy fats, including red meats and dairy products. Linoleic acid for example, is a member of the omega fatty acid family, which play so many vital roles in the health of the human body that listing them all would take an age. CLA is a form of conjugated linoleic acid, and is a combination of the many different types of linoleic acid found naturally in nature. Although found in whole foods, consuming enough of these foods to get enough CLA would be detrimental to your health, and expensive to boot, which is why CLA supplements are now more popular than ever before.
How does it work?
CLA functions primarily as a weight loss and muscle building aid, which is why people use this supplement when trying to strip away body fat and build or maintain lean muscle mass. Now, it may sound bizarre to some people, what with CLA being a form of fat, but CLA can really help you to burn body fat and lose weight in a number of different ways. The main reason for this is that CLA helps to actually increase the metabolism, allowing you to burn off more calories, even in a rested state. This increase in energy as the result of more calories being burnt off can improve athletic performance, so you will burn off even more calories and have very productive workouts. CLA has also been found to enhance fat oxidation, in which fat is used as a primary source of energy, so you are fuelling your body and your workouts with body fat, instead of calories from foods and drinks. CLA helps keep the metabolism stoked, even when in a caloric deficit, so your energy levels remain high, whilst your calorie consumption levels will be reduced, which obviously will result in fat loss. On top of that however, it is also a very potent supplement in terms of health and well-being, due to the fact that it can reduce fatty deposits and build ups in the arteries, as it reduces LDL cholesterol, whilst increasing HDL cholesterol.

CLA VS L-Carnitine
CLA is similar to L-Carnitine, although the two are still very different and function in very different ways. CLA has been found to assist with fat loss and lean muscle growth and maintenance, whereas Carnitine functions as a powerful anti-inflammatory. Because of this, the two are often stacked together for optimal results.
What can it be stacked with?
As mentioned, CLA is often stacked with L-Carnitine, although CLA can also be used with NO boosters, BCAAs, whey protein, and L-Glutamine when looking to burn body fat and increase/maintain lean muscle mass. In terms of general health however, Carnitine, CLA, and a multi-vitamin with added zinc will function very well indeed.
