What is HLA?

HLA is a polymer and it is actually an integral parts and component of our skin, as it is naturally produced via fibroblast skin cells. As we grow older, production of this compound via the skin cells becomes less and less, so HLA supplements are very important, especially as we grow older. It is also naturally present in other parts of thebody as well, particularly in the joints, which is why it is commonly added to joint support supplements, and it is why it is used by people suffering directly with joint problems. The compound itself is actually available via injection, liquid, or more commonly, in powdered supplement form, which may be added to capsules.

How does it work?

The compound itself works in many different ways, because it is present in so many different parts of the body. As mentioned, it is located primarily in the skin, as it is produced via fibroblast skin cells. It improves skin health as it assists with the production of collagen, and it improves the elasticity of skin cells in general. It helps to seal in moisture, and it helps to provide cushioning, especially in and around the joints. For example, it is a completely naturally occurring component of what is known as viscous synovial fluid, which helps to ensure that it alleviates pain and discomfort associated with osteoarthritis. You see, synovial fluid is a fluid designed to provide cushioning and protection from the joints, which is why HLA is considered so beneficial for joint protection and maintenance. It assists with synovial fluid production, helping to keep the joints protected and well looked after.

What are the main benefits of HLA supplements?

Some of the primary benefits associated with HLA supplements include the following:

Relieves joint pain

As mentioned, as HLA is essential for the production of viscous synovial fluid, in and around the joints, it is perfect for people suffering with joint pain and discomfort, especially those affected via arthritis and osteoporosis. The knees in particular, which are forced to absorb a lot of impact, can benefit greatly from HLA supplementation.

Skin health

This compound is also a common ingredient in many cosmetic skin-care products, and for good reason. As mentioned, HLA is naturally present in our skin, yet production dwindles a great deal as we grow older, with effects usually becoming visible once we reach our forties. HLA improves skin elasticity, it assists with the production of collagen, it hydrates the skin, and it seals in moisture, leaving it feeling firmer, fuller, and softer.

Improves vision

Another great benefit of HLA is the fact that it has been found to improve a person’s vision and eye health. Studies have revealed that the compound can help to add moisture to the eyes, helping to prevent dry eyes and therefore helping to improve our vision.

Other benefits include:

  • Moisturizes the skin
  • Can improve mental health and well-being
  • Improves skin health
  • Improves joint health
  • Helps treat and prevent arthritis and osteoporosis
  • And more...

How and when should it be consumed?

Health Canada Recommended Dose (capsules): Adults: 1 Capsule(s) 1 time(s) per day.

What can it be stacked with?

Many supplements will actually combine HLA with another very beneficial compound known as green lipped mussel, which is derived from crustaceans and also provides substantial benefits to a person’s overall joint health and function. As well as green lipped mussel extract however, another great stack containing HLA includes supplements such as: Vitamin C, Zinc, Magnesium, Glucosamine, Vitamin E, Omega 3-6-9, and a super greens supplement.
