What is Dandelion root?

Dandelion root, as you can probably guess, is a supplement that is derived from natural dandelion roots. Dandelions may be considered a nuisance amongst the green fingered gardeners amongst you, but in actual fact, dandelions have been found to provide a whole host of health benefits for the human body. In the plant world, dandelions are incredibly rich in nutrients, which is one of the reasons why a number of different cultures use the roots, and indeed the leaves, of dandelions, for medicinal purposes. The herb has a distinctly bitter taste, but even so, it can be used in a number of healthy recipes and beverages. Despite this however, it is the medicinal benefits of dandelion root, that have people especially excited.

How does it work?

Naturally, dandelion roots are brewed into nutrient-dense teas and warm beverages, though luckily for those of you who don’t drink tea, dandelion root is now also available as a potent and effective health supplement. One way in which dandelion root works on the human body, is that it helps to detoxify the body, by pulling harmful fluids and toxins out of the edamatous tissues within the body. This makes it a very effective ingredient for when it comes to cleansing the body and the major organs. On top of that however, it also eases swelling and pain associated with joint issues such as arthritis and gout. This is because the root has natural anti-inflammatory properties. For individuals who often retain a lot of fluids, the root functions as a natural diuretic, which basically means that you excrete more fluids than you can naturally retain. Hypertension for example, benefits as a result of the excretion of excess salts lost through the fluids, so blood pressure can be reduced, and cardiovascular health can improve as a result.

What are the benefits of using Dandelion root Supplements?

Some of the primary benefits associated with dandelion root supplements include:

Nutrient rich

As mentioned, dandelion root is one of the most nutrient dense plants in the entire world, and because of this, it is considered incredibly healthy. Dandelion root is packed full of vitamins, minerals, and powerful antioxidants that help to boost the immune system.

Natural laxative effects

Constipation is a very common, and very painful and potentially dangerous condition that can affect people of all ages. Another benefit associated with dandelion root, is the fact that it provides natural laxative effects that can not only help a person to pass stools, but they also soften the stools, making going to the bathroom a great deal more comfortable.

How and when should it be consumed?

    Health Canada Recommended Dose (capsules): Adults: 1 - 2 Capsule(s) 1 - 6 time(s) per day.

    Dandelion root VS dandelion leaf

Obviously, as dandelion roots and dandelion leaves are both part of the same plant, the two are very similar, yet despite this, consuming different parts of the plant will provide different benefits. For liver cleansing properties, and detoxification purposes, the roots are considered the most effective. However, dandelion leaves have been proven to provide the most prominent benefits when it comes to acting as a natural diuretic as they help to rid the body of more excess fluids and salts than the roots alone. For optimal results, the two can be stacked together.

What can it be stacked with?

Dandelion root is very much a supplement that promotes health and well-being, especially when it comes to liver health and function. Because of this, it is often stacked with supplements including: multi-vitamins, milk thistle, cod liver oil, and vitamin C with added Zinc. Some people even combine dandelion leaf extract with dandelion root extract.
