What are omega 3-6-9 softgels?
Omega 3-6-9 softgels are, as the name suggests, softgel supplements enriched with hugely healthy and hugely beneficial omega 3, 6, and 9 fatty acids. These fatty acids are referred to as essential fatty acids, because the body requires them on a daily basis, yet it cannot synthesize them naturally like it can with other compounds. Omega 3-6-9 supplements provide a whole host of health benefits for the human body, and truthfully, to list each one in great detail would take an age. Not only are these essential fatty acids hugely beneficial for the brain, they are also beneficial for the metabolism, for hormone regulation, for energy production, for cardiovascular health, for joint health, and much more besides.
How do they work?
These fatty acids work in a number of ways, for a number of reasons, which is why it is so important that we have enough in our diets on a daily basis. When talking about fatty acids, omega 3 fatty acids often steal all of the headlines and all of the credit, and although beneficial in a huge way, omega 6, and omega 9 fatty acids, are also very important. Omega 3 fatty acids for example, are a polyunsaturated fat that are primarily found in fish and seafood. These have been found to help reduce triglycerides in the blood, and subsequently help reduce LDL cholesterol, which could result in a heart attack and a stroke in people of all ages and levels of fitness. They also help boost brain health and cognitive function, helping to enhance brain power, memory, and focus, whilst helping to prevent degenerative conditions such as dementia or Alzheimer’s. Omega 6 fatty acids however, have been linked with vast improvements in cardiovascular health. These polyunsaturated fats are found predominantly in foods such as seeds, vegetable oils, and nuts, and can help provide numerous benefits for the heart. Omega 9 fatty acids are monounsaturated fatty acids, and are not actually considered essential, unlike omega 3 and 6, because the body does produce some omega 9. However, increased intakes have been linked with increases in vitamin E levels, improvements to the heart, reductions in LDL cholesterol, and increases antioxidant activity. Combine them all together, and you see just how important they are for the human body.
What are the main benefits of omega 3-6-9 supplements?
Some of the main benefits of omega 3-6-9 supplements include:
Improved brain health
As mentioned, one of the biggest benefits associated with these omega fatty acids, is the fact that they help to strengthen the brain and increase brain power. Cognitive function is enhanced, as is short and long term memory, concentration levels, focus levels, and much more besides. As we grow older, our brains can deteriorate, and supplementing with omega 3-6-9 supplements is a great way of keeping the brain fit and healthy.
Great for the joints
Another benefit of omega 3-6-9 supplements, is the fact that they are beneficial for the joints. They help lubricate the joints, thus preventing pain and inflammation, making them great for conditions such as arthritis, or even osteoporosis for that matter.
Improved immunity
Omega supplements also help boost vitamin contents, and provide potent antioxidant-like properties that help to free the body of toxins and eradicate free radicals before they have time to attack our cells.
Other benefits include:
- Increased metabolism
- Improved eyesight
- Improved brain health
- Reduced inflammation
- Increased energy production and weight loss
- Provides health and support for the joints
- Improves cardiovascular health
- Reduces harmful LDL cholesterol
- And more…
How and when should they be consumed?
Health Canada Recommended Dose (capsules): Adults: Take 2 softgels per day.
Omega 3-6-9 VS Omega 3 supplements
Although very similar to one another, there are some very unique differences associated with omega 3 supplements and omega 3-6-9 supplements. To begin with, the omega 9 is a monounsaturated fat, as opposed to a polyunsaturated fat, and that is not actually essential. Put simply, omega 3-6-9 capsules simply provide more benefits to the human body than omega 3 alone, and with these supplements, not only do you get the omega 3 benefits, you also receive the benefits of the omega 6 and 9 fatty acids as well, giving you more bang for your buck.
What can they be stacked with?
As these supplements are generally considered beneficial for health and well-being, most people will simply stack them with a multi-vitamin tablet, perhaps a Vitamin C tablet with added zinc, and glucosamine for even more joint benefits.
