What is Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10)?

CoQ10 is actually a compound that is very similar to a vitamin. It is found naturally within the human body, and in actual fact, each and every single cell in your body contains CoQ10. This is because they use it to generate energy which is required for the maintenance and growth of healthy cells. On top of that however, it can also function as a very potent and powerful antioxidant, making it ideal for general health and well-being. It is found naturally in some foods, particularly in offal such as liver, kidney, and heart, but in order for us to consume enough for it to be beneficial, we would need to consume vast quantities of those foods, which could then damage our health.

How does it work?

As mentioned, CoQ10 plays a key role in the production of energy required for the growth and maintenance of cells within our body. Our cells utilize glucose sugars in order to generate energy required by the body to perform various tasks, and it is during this process that CoQ10 really comes into its own, as it plays a key role in this very process. On top of that however, it also functions as a potent and powerful antioxidant, which has been found to help promote general health and well-being by boosting the immune system. When toxins and free radicals invade the body, they can attack our cells and can change them molecularly.

What are the main benefits of CoQ10 supplements?

There are many benefits associated with CoQ10, and whilst we can’t examine each one in great detail, we can learn a little more about some of the most prominent benefits associated with this supplement. These include, but are not limited to:

Support cardiovascular health

Another great benefit of CoQ10 is the fact that it helps the circulatory system. CoQ10 has been shown to maintain and support cardiovascular health in many people including adults of all ages.

Great for migraine prevention

Anybody who has suffered with a migraine will know just how painful and debilitating they can be, and how awful they can make you feel. Studies have revealed however, that CoQ10 could help to relieve the symptoms of migraines, as well as helping to prevent them altogether. Studies have revealed that CoQ10 could relieve migraine frequency by as much as 27%.

Source of antioxidants

We are basically made up of billions upon billions of microscopic cells, so obviously ensuring that the cells that we are comprised of, all function correctly and healthily is absolutely essential. As mentioned, CoQ10 plays a key role in the production of energy within the cells, as well as in the formation, growth, and repair, of healthy cells in the process. CoQ10 supplementation therefore, is considered to be highly beneficial.

How and when should it be consumed?

Health Canada Recommended Dose (capsules): Adults: 1 Capsule(s) 1 - 3 time(s) per day.

CoQ10 VS Ubiquinol

Although very similar to one another, studies have found that ubiquinol is believed to be easier to absorb than CoQ10, although the effects are far less prolific. The two are from the same family, and are both found naturally within our cells. CoQ10 is more powerful and provides more benefits, whereas Ubiquinol is considered to be easier to absorb.

What can it be stacked with?

CoQ10 is considered beneficial for general health and well-being, so for the ultimate health stack, it can be used in conjunction with an Omega fatty acid supplement, zinc, Vitamin C, and a multi-vitamin.
