What is Alfalfa Protein Powder?
Alfalfa protein, sometimes simply referred to as alfalfa powder, is a health and fitness supplement used to help increase the natural consumption of protein in the diet, along with numerous other nutrients as well. Alfalfa itself is a legume which has been used all over the world for centuries upon centuries, since way back in ancient Arabic times in fact. Translated, it’s name means ‘father of foods’ in Arabic, due to the fact that it is packed full of so many healthy nutrients and vitamins. Alfalfa plants actually sprout down extremely deep into the earth, and as they do sprout down so deeply, their roots are able to absorb huge quantities of minerals from the sub-soil, which is what makes it so incredibly nutritious. It is rich in chlorophyll, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, fibre, saponins, flavonoids, amino acids, and great quality plant based protein.
How does it work?
To list each and every single health and nutrition-based aspect of how alfalfa protein works would take forever, so we’ll make it as simply and brief as possible. As far as the protein goes, the protein itself works in pretty much the same way as you would expect whey protein, pea protein, soy protein, or any other protein for that matter, to work. It is absorbed via the bloodstream where it is then transported along in the blood, along with oxygen and numerous other nutrients, where it feeds cells in the muscles all over the body. Once the cells have the necessary amounts of protein and nutrients, they can begin to regenerate and repair themselves following spells of intense exercise, thanks to a special technique known as protein synthesis. The vitamins and minerals found in the supplement also help to boost immune function and provide countless other benefits as well.
What are some of the other benefits?
As mentioned, alfalfa protein powder is one of the most nutritionally rich plant-based protein supplements on the market, providing a whole heap of benefits including:
- Helping to promote lean muscle growth
- Being a vegan and vegetarian friendly source of protein
- Helping to strengthen and improve the immune system
- Helping to improve your vision
- It’s naturally low in sugars and fat

How and when should it be consumed?
Ideally, alfalfa protein should be consumed one – three times per day, with at least one shake being consumed immediately following your workout. Combine 2 scoops with around 250ml water, mix or shake well, and then consume. It should gradually be included into the diet as it can have detox effects on the body, so the body will need to get used to it gradually.
